2015: A Tale of Three Domes

The University of South Carolina has a rich history and rivalry with The University of North Carolina.  The first game played between these two programs was in 1903, and subsequently have faced off 56 times.

This rivalry game will be played at Bank of America Stadium.  Located in Charlotte, NC, this retractable domed stadium doubles as an NFL field for the Carolina Panthers.  The seating capacity is 73,778.

The beautiful backdrop of the tops of buildings in Charlotte, NC makes the outer scenery of Bank of America Stadium when the dome is pulled away.

The second possible “big stage stadium” we may play in is the Georgia Dome.  Located in Atlanta, GA this is truly the heart of the south.   This will be where the SESC Championship Game will be played.  I believe the reason why we will play UNC inside the Bank of America Stadium is to help better prepare us for this matchup.  With the lid on, noise is trapped inside making life difficult for everyone trapped within the confines of the field.  The seating capacity is 71,250.

This field has been used since 1994. However, the first two SEC Championship games were held at the historical Legion Field located in Birmingham, AL.

If the Gamecocks make it to the SEC Championship game, chances are either win or loss that we will be going to play in yet another domed structure.  Let’s stay optimistic and send us through the Playoff System and into the Championship Game.

All eyes will be on the screen for this one. If you are on the East Coast, set your clocks forward two hours.

This is the big tamale’ – The Big Show.  After 12 regular season games, an SEC Championship bid and victory, then it’s off to the playoff system.  Fast forwarding to the Championship Game, we find yet another dome in Glendale, AZ.  Here is where The Fiesta Bowl will take place.  The seating capacity is 73,000.

The point is: YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO PLAY INSIDE A DOME BEFORE YOU CAN WIN INSIDE THE DOME!

It’s good that ESPN will be broadcasting nationally for the Charlotte Showdown so we can also get used to playing in front of the entire nation.  Since arriving ten years ago, Steve Spurrier has performed miracles for South Carolina never before dreamed.  This Thursday, the 28th, expect to see him check off one of three steps.  The next will be the SEC Conference…

BROADCASTING INFORMATION IS AS FOLLOWS:
